Nehru Centre - Nehru Planetarioum :-
It is named after Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru, India's late Prime Minister. It is erected at Dr.
Annie Bezant Road, Worli. It was inaugurated by late Prime
Minister Indira Gandhi, daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru on 12th
December 1976.
The
planetarium offers a new opportunity for fostering the
scientific temper. Its sky shows make learning astronomy a
pleasant experience.
The imposing Nehru Planetarioum building has already become
a landmark in Mumbai.
It has a circular sky-theatre with a seating capacity of
about 600. In the middle of the sky theatre is giant
planetarium projector. It is a night sky as seen from any
place on earth at any time past, present and future.
It's a must for every Indian and foreign visitor to visit
this centre.

Mahalaxmi Temple :-
This temple is situated on the bank of the sea. It is dedicated to
the Goddess of wealth (Laxmi and Property. Three images of Goddess
Mahalaxmi, Mahakali. Mahasaraswati adorned with pearl necklace, nose
rings and gold bangles can be seen. Hindu devotees offer flowers and
coconuts to Mahalaxmi. This temple is strictly for Hindus. |
Haji Ali Dargah:
It is situated in the middle of sea, about 500 yards from the road.
It is named after the great saint Haji Ali. Thousands of people of
every religion visit to this Dargha for prayers. Only during the low
tide you can reach this shrine on a narrow concrete path. |

Race Course:- On the eastern side of Hornby Vellard is Race Course, one of the
finest in the world during the season, which starts from the beginning
of November and lasts up to the middle of April, races are held
on every Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.

Elephanta Caves:
Elephanta Caves are situated on a small island about 11 kms, from
the Gateway of India by boat. The name Elephanta was given by the
Portuguese from a large Elephant Structure they found there, which
is now removed to the veer jijamata Udyan, Mumbai. In Hindu mythology
the supreme of God is worshipped in his three aspects as Brahama-
the sreator Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the Destroyer.
In the main cave there are nine carvings. They depict: (i) God Shiva
as the King of Dancers (ii) God Shiva as demon killing Andhakasur
(iii) Marriage ceremony of Shiva and Parvati (iv) Descent to Ganges.
(v) Shiva as Maheshmurti (vi) Shiva as Ardhnarinateshwar. (vii) Parvati
in pot (a scene on Kailas Mountain) (viii) Shiva lifting Kailas (ix)
Shiva as an ascetic. Every day there are launch services from the
Gateway of India. |
